Ahmad Chalabi, Iraqi Politician Who Pushed for U.S. Invasion is dead

The Iraqi politician who helped persuade the United States to invade Iraq in 2003, and then tried to attain power as his country was nearly torn apart by sectarian violence, died on Tuesday after a heart failure at his home in Baghdad. He was 71.

As recently as last year, Mr. Chalabi’s name was floated as a candidate for prime minister. Until his death, he was the head of the finance committee in Parliament.
