Buhari rewards sports men and women

President Buhari today January 21st, hosted and rewarded Men and Women of Sports in Nigeria at the State house Banquet.

President Buhari rewarded World scrabble champion, Wellington Jighere with N1.5m while his coach got N1.2m & his team security got N450k.

The Golden Eaglets got N1.2m each while their Coach got N900k and Assistant coach got N600k.

Other Golden eaglet team officials got between N200, 000 to -300,000.

U-23 AFCON Champions and their coach were rewarded with N500,000 each.

Also rewarded was the 1985 squad that got N2m each while their coaches got N1.5m.

Nigeria’s National basketball team, D’tigers got N600k each while their Coach got N600k.

The U16 female basketball team that won silver at the U16 FIBAAFRICA and their coaches got 600k each while other officials got N150k.

Also rewarded were the Athletes at the IPC Asian open (powerlifting).

The winner of the Gold medal got 600K, Silver 450k & coaches 450k. Officials N250K.

Fifa ranking: Nigeria ranked 66th

FIFA today Thursday Nov.3rd announced its latest rankings with Nigeria slipping down 7 spots to 66th in the world and 14th in Africa.

2014 AFCON winners Cote d’Ivoire continued their domination while Algeria came second and Ghana’s Black Stars third.

Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped down to the 66th place in the latest FIFA ranking while Cote d’Ivoire are still on top of Africa.

Emenike Retires From The Super Eagles

Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has announced his retirement from the national team.

The striker took to his Instagram page on Monday night to announce his withdrawal from the Senior national team.
He said:

    “No more Eagles career! After five great years, I am happy to announce that I have put full-stop to my national team career for the sake of national peace.”
    “It’s a pleasure for me to have played for this great country. I never regretted it and I think it’s the best time to end it. Million thanks to all the fans who have been very supportive during the good and bad times.

    “I am very proud of my performance, I am proud of my team mates and I am very proud of the nation called ‘Nigeria’. My AFCON gold medal is a sign of great achievement, My AFCON topscorer award speaks a lot about my commitment and dedication to the team.”

The player, also stated that the national team belongs to no one and therefore, no one should be threatened.

    “Super Eagles is a camp not a family house, and it shouldn’t be a threat zone for any individual.
    “I have done according to our national anthem. “All my dreams came true in the national team, I dreamt to win Nations Cup for Nigeria after 20-years, I dreamt to played at the World Cup as well as to make a name for myself… In the space of five years, I got them. I’m a winner!
    “For every disappointing fans, maybe due to my inability to re-establish my goal scoring instinct for Super Eagles, I will like to say I’m sorry but the ones I had scored counted well for the team.
    ”As long as Nigeria remains, you and I will always remember the name ‘Emenike’.
    “Finally, I am happy to make a bow and continue supporting the team every time,”he concluded.

STEPHEN KESHI APOLOGIZES TO NIGERIANS FOR ALL THE PAINS HE CAUSED.

Stephen Keshi has apologised to Nigerians over his protracted contract talks with the country’s football federation.
A very sober coach Keshi in an exclusive interview with AfricanFootball.com also apologised personally to NFF president Amaju Pinnick and entire executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation.

    “I have used the last few weeks for a deep sober reflections and I have realised that I have made mistakes,” he said.
    I want to sincerely apologise first to Nigerians. Even though I did it when we failed to qualify for the AFCON. But no amount apology is too much for Nigerians, and from the
    depth of my heart I am really sorry for the pains I may have directly or indirectly caused Nigerians.
    I ask for their forgiveness because I know that once Nigerians are behind you and support the team we will all succeed.”
    He added:
    “I want to personally apologise to the NFF president Amaju Pinnick and the executive committee members. I personally like the manner in which they have handled things. I want to ask their forgiveness in anyway I have erred. Like it is said, it is human to err and divine to forgive.
    Now that we have entered a new page, I want to say that the last few years as the Eagles coach was a learning curve for me. I have made mistakes and those mistakes have made me better and I learnt a lot from them.
    I want to also apologise and appeal to the media. They are my friends in the media and I need them to succeed. I ask the media to forgive me and put the past behind because I need them for the Eagles to succeed.”

Keshi is expected to soon sign a two-year contract that would take him to the 2017 AFCON.

Black Stars of Ghana get Jeep Cherokee from their president

When the Black Stars of Ghana placed second at the just concluded AFCON 2015 competition, their president promised them a Jeep Cherokee each among other gifts. The SUVs worth about $76,000 are now ready for pick up. The footballer’s families have been asked to come pick the SUVs on behalf of the footballers who have since returned to their various bases in Europe.

The footballers also got $25,000 each.

Former footballer Samuel Kuffour shaves hair after Ghana loses to Ivory Coast


Retired professional Ghanaian footballer turned football analyst Samuel Osei Kuffour shaved his hair yesterday night after his country lost the 2015 AFCON competition to Ivory Coast. The former Bayern Munich defender had said that Ghana will win and if they don’t, he’ll shave his hair…

    “Tell your producer to bring the barber in because in the final we are going to win against Ivory Coast. If we don’t win, I will shave my hair” Kuffour said to the host of Supersport’s AFCON 2014 presentation on DSTV

Well, they lost and the host had the pleasure of shaving Samuel’s hair live on TV.
